This simple holiday cocktail will warm guests up on a chilly winter night. For a little extra heat, add a few slices fresh ginger (unpeeled is fine) before simmering. Just remove the ginger slices before serving.

Ingredients

  • 3 c. apple cider
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 lemon
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. whiskey
  • cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  1. Put the cider, water, lemon, and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook, stirring, about 5 minutes or until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Stir in the whiskey.
  3. Divide the liquid among glasses. Garnish with cinnamon sticks, if desired.
