Recipe by /contributors/ed-kenny This riff on a Tom Collins calls for Japanese whisky, which is known for being exceptionally balanced and smooth. Your favorite Scotch whisky is a good substitute.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups Japanese whisky (such as Nikka or Suntory)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 5 lemons)
  • 1 12-ounce can club soda
  • Lemon twists (optional; for serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and 1/3 cup water in a jar. Cover; shake until sugar dissolves. Combine syrup, whisky, lemon juice, and club soda in a large pitcher. Add 8 cups ice; stir until ice begins to melt, about 1 minute. Serve over ice, garnished with lemon twists, if desired.
  2. DO AHEAD: Syrup can be made 3 months ahead; cover and chill.

Lemons can help to prevent oxidative damage to the body, which women with PCOS are often susceptible to. Lemons are also rich in vitamin C, flavonoids, and other antioxidants.
