Betty demonstrates how to make Chex Muddy Buddies, commonly known as Puppy Chow. This is one of many recipes by General Mills that is a variation of the original Chex Party Mix. This version has chocolate and peanut butter added to Chex cereal, and is coated with confectioners sugar. This luscious snack doesn't even need to be baked!
NOTE: DESPITE THE NAME "PUPPY CHOW," THIS IS NOT DOG FOOD! IN FACT, IT CONTAINS CHOCOLATE, WHICH IS DANGEROUS TO DOGS! DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR DOG!!!
Chex Muddy Buddies ("Puppy Chow")
9 cups Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, or Chocolate Chex cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup peanut butter
¼ cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups powdered sugar
1. In a large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2. In a 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter, uncovered, on High for 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer, or until mixture can be stirred smooth. (I did the melting of chocolate, peanut butter, and butter in a large skillet on top of the stove.) Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food storage plastic bag. (I used a 1 gallon bag—twice.)
3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in an airtight container.
