Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 4 squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 1 box confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 c. Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • .67 c. sour cream
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • .13 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. creamy or chunky peanut butter
  • 1/2 c. marshmallow cream
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • Multicolor nonpareils
  • White icing or gel

Instructions

  1. For frosting, melt butter and chocolate over very low heat; cool to room temperature. Stir cocoa, sour cream, vanilla, and salt into confectioners' sugar, then beat in chocolate (3 cups).
  2. Beat filling ingredients until blended.
  3. To assemble cake: Slice cake layers in half horizontally. Place one layer on serving plate; spread with half of the peanut filling. Top with second layer; spread with 3/4 cup chocolate frosting. Top with third layer; spread with remaining filling. Top with final layer and frost cake.
  4. For decorations, place a star-shaped cookie cutter on cake. Spoon enough nonpareils into center of cookie cutter to make a single layer of sprinkles; gently press into frosting. Remove cutter and outline star with white icing. Makes 16 servings.
