Ingredients

  • 2 lb. small white onions
  • 4 tbsp. margarine or butter
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Peel onions, leaving a little of the root ends to help hold their shape during cooking. In 12-inch skillet over high heat, heat onions and 3 cups water to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes until onions are tender. Drain liquid from onions. Stir in margarine or butter, sugar, and salt; over medium-high heat, cook until onions are browned, shaking skillet and stirring occasionally.
