Ingredients
- 1 (10.5-oz.) can beef consommé
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 Medium onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 1/2 tbsp. cold water
Instructions
- Make the Soup: Cook onions in butter until translucent. Add consommé and water; bring to a simmer. Mix water and cornstarch together and add to consommé. Stir until creamy.
- Make the Compound Butter: Mix together butter, thyme, and garlic salt until well combined.
- Assemble the Grilled Cheese: Mix French Onion soup with shredded cheese, just until cheese is moistened. Butter one side of each piece of bread. Spread cheese mixture on unbuttered side of two pieces of bread. Preheat skillet over medium to low heat. Add assembled grilled cheese and cook until golden brown.
- Serve with French Onion soup.
