Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/2 yellow onion, minced
- 2 1/2 c. ketchup
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1/3 c. apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp. tomato paste
- 1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/3 c. Jack Daniel's whiskey
- 3 lb. chicken wings, (split at the joints, tips removed)
- kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat grill over medium heat.
- Meanwhile, make BBQ sauce. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds more. Pour in ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and whiskey. Simmer until flavors meld and mixture reduces slightly, about 5-10 minutes.
- Season chicken on both sides with salt and pepper to taste. Add to grill and cook until the skin is golden-brown and the meat is cooked through, about 20-25 minutes, flipping the chicken about halfway through.
- Remove from heat and toss in about 1 cup of sauce, adding more sauce if desired.
